Tayli Move help
Answers for the questions people ask most. If yours isn't here, write to us and the person who made the app will reply.
Tayli Move is nearly ready for the App Store. These answers are for the version that will ship.
Nothing here matches that. Try another word, or write to [email protected].
Quick fixes
The questions that come up most, each with a quick answer.
My route looks wrong, or the line was slow to start
GPS needs open sky, and takes a moment to settle after you leave a building. Tayli Move ignores the first, wildly inaccurate fixes rather than drawing them, so there can be a short pause before the line starts.
The GPS pill on the tracking screen shows how it is doing: wait for Good or Strong before you set off. And keep Precise Location on, in iPhone Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Tayli Move.
Tracking stopped when I locked my phone
Tayli Move keeps recording with the screen locked (iOS shows the blue location indicator while it does), and While Using the App permission is all it needs. If it stopped:
- Check location is not set to Never in iPhone Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Tayli Move.
- Low Power Mode can slow GPS updates down.
- If the app was closed mid-activity, swiped away or out of battery, open it again. It offers the unfinished activity back (Resume it) for up to twelve hours.
My activity wasn't saved
Tayli Move needs at least a few seconds of movement before it can save an activity, so an accidental start and stop is thrown away rather than filling your history with zeroes.
The map or the 3D flyover is blank
Maps and 3D terrain come from Apple Maps, which needs a data connection. Recording does not: your route is still captured with no signal, and the map fills in once you are back online.
My activities aren't showing in the Health app
Saving to Health is off until you turn it on: More › Save to Apple Health. Then check iPhone Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › Tayli Move, and allow Workouts and Workout Routes. Permission has to be in place before an activity finishes for that activity to be saved to Health.
Something is behaving strangely
More › Your data › Troubleshooting shows what the app can see, from location and Health to the widget, and has two fixes. Reset settings only puts every setting back and keeps all your activities. Erase everything deletes the lot; it is clearly labelled and asks first. Workouts already in Apple Health stay there either way.
Your data
How do I move my history to a new iPhone?
Moving with Quick Start, or restoring an iCloud or computer backup, brings everything across by itself.
Otherwise, use More › Your data › Export all activities, which writes one backup file. Put it somewhere the new phone can reach (iCloud Drive, AirDrop, or an email to yourself), install Tayli Move there, and use More › Your data › Restore from a backup. Sparks and unlocked backgrounds are not in that file, so they only come across with an iPhone backup.
Can I get my activities into Strava, Garmin or Komoot?
Yes. Open any activity and choose Export as GPX file, then upload the file wherever you like. It works the other way too: More › Your data › Import a GPX file brings activities in from other apps, several at once.
Why is there no heart rate?
An iPhone cannot measure heart rate on its own. Tayli Move reads it from Apple Health, so it appears when a watch or chest strap wrote heart rate to Health during your activity, and Save to Apple Health is on.
What do privacy zones hide?
Draw a circle around home, or anywhere else: 200 metres by default, anything from 100 to 1,000. Any part of a route inside it is cut from share cards, flyovers and exported GPX files, while your own history keeps the whole route. Set them up in More › Privacy zones.
Is anything uploaded?
No. There is no account, no server and no analytics. Your activities live on your iPhone, and in Apple Health if you choose. The privacy policy has the detail.
Other questions
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no server, so there is no bill for anyone to cover. Sparks are earned by finishing challenges and are never sold. About has the arithmetic.
How much battery does it use?
While an activity is running, GPS works at full accuracy the whole time, which is what keeps the line on the road, so expect it to use more than most apps. Once you finish, it stops using location entirely. Low Power Mode helps on a long day out, at the cost of a less precise route.
Will it send me notifications?
Only one, and only if you ask: More › Activity › Reminders. It arrives at 7pm, and only when you have a streak of three days or more going and have not moved yet that day. No weekly summaries, no nudges to come back.
Will there be an Apple Watch or Android version?
Both are wanted, neither is promised. Tayli Move is for iPhone, with iOS 18 or later. Heart rate from a watch you already wear still shows up, through Apple Health.
Still stuck?
Write to [email protected] and say what happened and what you expected instead. Your iPhone model and iOS version help a lot. You'll hear back from someone who wrote the code, usually within a couple of days.
