Tayli Water help

Answers for the version on the App Store now. Most problems have a two-minute fix; if yours doesn't, write to us and the person who made the app will reply.

Quick fixes

The questions that come up most, each with a quick answer.

Reminders aren't arriving

Go through these in order. The first one that is off is usually the whole story.

  1. Are notifications allowed? iPhone Settings › Tayli Water › Notifications should be on.
  2. Is it within your hours? In the app, Settings › Reminders. They only arrive between the From and Until times you set, and never overnight.
  3. Have you already reached your goal today? Then they have stopped for the day, on purpose. If they are still quiet the next morning, log a glass in the app itself or turn Remind me off and on, and they pick up again.
  4. Is a Focus on? Sleep, Work and other Focus modes can hold reminders back. Look in Notification Centre, or allow Tayli Water in that Focus.
  5. Still nothing? Settings › Troubleshooting shows Reminders waiting. If it reads 0 while reminders are on, turn Remind me off and on again to rebuild them.

The widget shows the wrong number, or isn't updating

Logging a glass, in the app or on the widget itself, updates every widget straight away. If one is showing an old number:

  • Open Tayli Water once. The widgets catch up with it.
  • In the gallery, while you are choosing a widget to add, the numbers are samples. Yours appear once it is on your Home Screen.
  • If it is still stuck, remove the widget and add it again.

The water on my Lock Screen disappeared

iOS limits how long any app can keep a live display on the Lock Screen, to around eight hours, and then takes it down. Nothing is lost.

To bring it back, turn Settings › Lock Screen › Keep today on the Lock Screen off and on again. Also check that Live Activities is on in iPhone Settings › Tayli Water. If you would rather it never went away, the Lock Screen widgets show your total all day without it.

My history was already filled in on a fresh install

That is water from Apple Health. With Apple Health switched on in Settings, Tayli Water counts water that other apps saved to Health, so days can fill in before you have logged anything here. Today says how much came from Health ("includes … from Health").

If you would rather count only what you log in Tayli Water, turn Apple Health off in Settings.

It says Tayli Water can't save to Health

Health permissions are kept in Health's own settings, not the app's: iPhone Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › Tayli Water. Turn Water on in both lists, the one it may write and the one it may read, then switch Apple Health on in Tayli Water's Settings.

Using it

How do I change the quick-add sizes?

Settings › Quick add. Tap a size to change it, swipe one to remove it, and add up to five. Back to the usual sizes puts the original four back.

I forgot to log a drink, or logged one by mistake

For a glass you forgot, tap Another amount, or a drink you forgot under the quick-add buttons, and set the amount and when you had it.

For a mis-tap, every drink is listed under Logged today with its own button to remove it.

What goal should I pick?

Two litres a day is the usual advice, but the right amount depends on your size, the weather and what you are doing. Pick something you will actually reach, in Settings › Your day › Daily goal.

With Apple Health on and your weight saved there, Suggest one from my weight offers a starting number. If a doctor has given you a figure, use theirs: Tayli Water is a tracker, not medical advice.

Can I use ounces?

Yes: Settings › Units. Every number in the app, the widgets and the reminders follows, and you can switch back whenever you like without losing anything.

What is Your plan for?

Drinks you mean to have at set times, such as 500 ml at 16:00. Today shows them as still to come until you tick them off, each gets its own reminder, and ticking one off early stops its reminder. Set it up in Settings › Your plan, or leave it empty and just log as you go.

Your data

Do I need an account, or an internet connection?

No, and no. There is no account to make and nothing to sign in to. The app has no networking code. The only part that ever goes online is the tip jar, which talks to Apple's App Store when you open it.

Will my history come with me to a new iPhone?

Yes, if you move the usual way: Quick Start, or restoring from an iCloud or computer backup. Tayli Water's history is part of your iPhone backup, like any other app's.

There is no account and no server, so without a backup there is no other copy. Looks from the tip jar come back with Restore purchases.

Can I export my data?

Settings › Troubleshooting › Export your history saves every drink as a spreadsheet file (CSV), one row per drink with the date and the amount in millilitres. Numbers, Excel and Google Sheets all open it. It is a copy for you; the app cannot import it back yet.

How do I delete everything?

Settings › Troubleshooting › Erase everything. It deletes every drink and setting, and removes the water Tayli Water wrote to Apple Health. Water that other apps logged stays where it is. It asks first, and it cannot be undone.

Deleting the app removes its data from your iPhone too, but leaves what it wrote to Health. Erase first if you want that gone as well.

Does Tayli Water send my data anywhere?

No. There is no server for it to go to, and no analytics or advertising code in the app. Everything stays on your iPhone, and in Apple Health if you turn that on. The privacy policy has the detail.

The tip jar

What does a tip unlock?

Different looks for the water, and nothing else. Any tip unlocks the supporter looks, Nebula and Cauldron. The largest one also unlocks the patron looks, Poison and Magma. Every number, reminder and day of history works the same whether you ever tip or not.

Each tip is a one-off payment, never a subscription. You will find it in Settings › The water, and the tip jar.

My looks are gone after changing phone

Settings › The water, and the tip jar › Restore purchases, signed in with the Apple Account you tipped with. They come straight back.

Can I get a refund?

Payments go through Apple, so refunds do too, at reportaproblem.apple.com. A refunded tip takes back the looks it unlocked, and nothing else changes.

Other devices

Is there an iPad, Apple Watch or Android version?

Not yet. Tayli Water is for iPhone, with iOS 18 or later. A Watch app and Android are both wanted, and neither is promised: the iPhone app has to be genuinely good first.

Is it available in my language?

English only for now, though it is on the App Store in every country.

Still stuck?

Write to [email protected] and say what happened and what you expected instead. Your iPhone model and iOS version help a lot. You'll hear back from someone who wrote the code, usually within a couple of days.
